What's the School of Local Mission?

Flexible training designed to help people gain real skills and real experience in local mission. The focus is on preparing you to reach people in your community who are outside the sphere of existing churches. The course content looks at your own personal development as well as exploring community, and mission from a 'God's-eye' view.

Interactive learning means much of the work is done in small groups. Bible teaching and theology are fully integrated with practical aspects in each unit. Vibrant group discussion and case studies make learning accessible, practical and fun. Even assessment tasks involve putting your learning into practice in your local mission context.

We've also aimed to make a level playing field for all people regardless of their educational background.

What are the different training options?

  • Gap Year (Certificate IV in Local Mission, 1 year) click for more
  • Flexible Study (Certificate IV in Local Mission, 2 years) click for more
  • Team training (for church groups)
  • Traineeships

2010 training is delivered at historic Kihilla Homestead at Lawson in the beautiful Blue Mountains, near Sydney.

Do I get a qualification?

By completing the Certificate IV in Local Mission you will receive a nationally recognised Certificate.

However, we also recognise that not everyone will want a ‘piece of paper’ and encourage people to join the flexible study intensives for as few or as many units as you like.
