flexible study
Designed for those with a career, children or a mortgage this method of study involves taking a long-weekend ‘intensive’ every three months to complete units of the Certificate IV one at a time. It takes two years to complete the course by this method.
Covering the same content as the Gap Year, our aim is to prepare you to reach people in your community whose culture and world-view place them outside the sphere of existing churches. The course content looks at your own personal development as well as exploring what it means to live in community, and how to approach mission in a local, Australian context.
Along with core subjects covering ‘Kingdom foundations’, ‘self and spirit’, ‘community’ and ‘mission’, you will also get to choose three electives that tailor training towards your mission field. Through our partnership with other training providers, you can pick up introductory skills in areas such as children’s work, drug and alcohol recovery, indigenous work and pastoral care.
Practicing Local Mission
A prerequisite for this study, (as a number of assessment tasks require this) is to have a context in your life where you regularly engage with unchurched people; building authentic relationships, responding to needs, understanding the culture and world-view in which they live and seeking to bring the kingdom of God to them in relevant ways and so endeavor to make disciples for Jesus.
Please note that it is really not possible to complete the course requirements without this, however we are more than happy to talk to you about opportunities for you to serve in this intentional, regular way if you are open to joining one of our local mission bases.
