Vital Stats
Hailed in the 1970's as a new start for about 4000 people in need of public housing, Airds now rates as one of the most disadvantaged areas in the entire country. More than 95% of Airds residents rent their home and it's estimated that eighty percent of households are affected by drug and alcohol abuse, bringing with it petty crime, domestic violence, family breakdown, teenage pregnancy and poor school attendance. Unemployment is more than four times that national average.
What We Do
So far we're hanging around and starting conversations with people – people like Shane and Nicci, who have welcomed Jesus' invitation to follow him, and have joined with us. Over the next few months we'll make as many new friends in the area as we can, and look for opportunities to become involved in some of the dozens of projects and initiatives that other organisations and government bodies run here.
We've been inspired by rapid church multiplication approach pioneered in places like China, and we're seeking to apply as much as we can here in Airds.
